Internet Info clutter – “how am I going to stand out among the others out there”

Recently, a client approached us asking how they can stand out from their competition online. Many companies are harnessing the power of social and digital media to attract and grow their customer base (and if you aren’t you are missing out!), so it may seem like a daunting task to stand out among the rest.

In a previous blog post, we detailed how important it is for a company to have an online presence and to project visual content out across their website and social networks. Many people do not have a lot of time to read through a lengthy post, so having visually appealing content is key. Consumers are much more responsive to videos, photos and infographics. In fact, Internet Retailer reports that visitors who view product videos are 85% more likely to buy from that company than those that do not.

Even search giant Google has shifted to visual suggestions as well. Just type in a search query and you are almost always presented with visual content – whether it be an image or a video.  These quick, appealing and easily digestible bits of content are what can help bring consumers to your website.

In order to stand out from the others, it is important to have a strategy around the quality, creativity, and distribution of your visual content. Although you may be tempted to try and broadcast your content to as large an audience as possible –we don’t recommend it. This will take a lot of time and will not likely lead to qualified customers.  If it’s not what they need or are searching for, the chances of them looking at your content in the first place and then proceeding to visit your website are very slim.

If you do your research and learn where your customers are coming from and the types of information they’re searching out, you will be able to cater to them better than the competition. What are your target markets talking about, what are they looking for, and where are they looking for it?

There are many free tools available for you to use to find this out. Mention is a great resource to keep track of what individuals are saying about your company, and what information they are sharing. It is important for you to monitor this and to also see who is influencing your target market. This is where you want your content to live!

So, ensuring your content is visual, creative, and encompasses a strategy for creating and posting this content is the best way to stand out among the clutter and establish yourself as a reputable and reliable source of information for your target customers.
